In addition, AHA communicates with federal legislators to convey the hospital field's position on potential legislative changes that would impact patients and patient care. The AHA, Association of American Medical Colleges, Children's Hospital Association and Federation of American Hospitals, which brought a lawsuit challenging the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ hospital price transparency rule, urged the Department of Health and Human Services to delay the effective date of the rule until the matter is settled by the courts.

The AHA urged the Secretary of Health and Human Services to extend the public health emergency beyond its current July 25, 2020 expiration date so health care providers can continue to offer the most efficient and effective care possible during the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.
